Sea Gull Lighting Company History
About Us| Our Brands| History| Careers| Directions| Environmental Policy| News
The Sea Gull Lighting story began at the workbench of a small lighting specialty store in Philadelphia, PA just after the First World War. Even then, Henry Siegel understood the value of continuity and variety. He used his design talents to create his hard-wired and portable fixtures, patenting them with an eye to the future. After World War II, servicemen returned home and wartime rationing ended. As a result, the market for every consumer product would explode with the demand for homes and household goods.

By then, the next generation of Henry Siegel's family was now involved in the business; but the company's total of seven employees and 3,000 square feet of factory space could not meet postwar appetites for lighting. The company's first major expansion cycle had begun, taking it into an 8,000 square-foot plant. Throughout most of the 1900s and beyond, the company has held firmly to its family roots. The Hirsch and Solomon families continue to lead a prosperous brand by maintaining a strong sense of the Sea Gull Lighting philosophy: design and build quality, fashionable products; give employees, distributors and builders the tools to succeed; be ready, always, to satisfy the market's tastes in décor.

The company he founded has stayed close to its family heritage of innovation and exacting standards. The Sea Gull Lighting brand is one of the oldest and best-known names in residential lighting

Once again, Sea Gull Lighting finds itself at an important milestone in its history of excellence. With the fourth generation of the Hirsch and Solomon families joining the leadership team, Sea Gull Lighting continues the tradition, doing old-fashioned business in the world of ever-evolving fashions in lighting while being committed to upgrading the Sea Gull Lighting design portfolio, manufacturing techniques and markets served.

Today, every Sea Gull Lighting fixture is conceived and built to match or exceed the latest tastes in lighting design as well as the newest building codes and construction techniques. Our lighting designers and trend watchers stay in step with current tastes and search out the unique. Never satisfied with a new milestone or industry achievement, we're constantly working on new components, new finishes and new ways to make lighting increase the value of any new home, home improvement project or business channel we service.

The modern Sea Gull Lighting plant stands on 19 acres in Riverside, New Jersey. The company also maintains operations in Philadelphia, PA; Houston, TX and Las Vegas, NV. Our state-of-the-art showrooms are in Riverside, NJ and Dallas, TX. The Hirsch and Solomon families continue to lead a prosperous brand by maintaining a strong sense of the Sea Gull Lighting philosophy: design and build quality, fashionable products; give employees, distributors and builders the tools to succeed; and be ready, always, to satisfy the markets' tastes in décor.

In the new century, we'll continue to be the best single source supplier for products in the lighting trades. Now that Sea Gull Lighting has been a leading source in lighting for over eighty-seven years, providing competitive technology, service and delivery, we've made the commitment to lead with excellence for generations to come. The future looks bright and we¹re just getting started.

Henry S. Siegel
Starting in Philadelphia as a designer and retailer of patented portable and hardwired devices, Henry Siegel developed the first brilliant Sea Gull Lighting ideas in 1919.
